User Manual

Introduction

The Org Monitoring application helps you retain and manage events occurring in your Salesforce org. This manual provides step-by-step instructions for setting up and using the application.

Application Setup

Before you begin, ensure you have the necessary permissions to access and configure the application. You must have the "Customize Application" permission (you must be a system administrator). Also assign the "Org Monitoring Admin" permission set to any user of this application.

Step 1: Enable Event Monitoring

  1. Go to Setup.
  2. Enter "Event Monitoring" in the Quick Find box.
  3. Click on Event Monitoring Settings under Security / Event Monitoring.
  4. Enable the Generate event log files toggle.

Step 2: Create Log Libraries

  1. Navigate to the Org Monitoring Introduction page.
  2. Click the Create Libraries button to create the necessary libraries for storing event logs.
  3. Once the libraries are created, you will see a success message indicating that the log libraries are created.

Step 3: Schedule Processes

  1. Navigate to the Org Monitoring Introduction page.
  2. Click the Schedule Archiving button to schedule the archiving process.
  3. Click the Schedule Cleaning button to schedule the cleaning process.
  4. Once the processes are scheduled, you will see success messages indicating that the archiving and cleaning processes are scheduled.

Step 4: Configure Retention Settings

  1. Navigate to the Org Monitoring Settings page.
  2. Specify the retention periods for CSV and JSON files in days.
  3. Click the Save Settings button to save your retention settings.

Scheduling and Managing Processes

  1. Navigate to the Org Monitoring Settings page.
  2. Check the status of the archiving and cleaning processes.
  3. If the processes are not scheduled, click the Schedule Now button to schedule them.
  4. You can also create log libraries if they are not already created.

Monitoring Warnings

The application will display warnings if the archiving or cleaning processes are not scheduled or if the log libraries are not created. Follow the instructions in the warnings to resolve any issues.

Archiving Process

The archiving process stores event log files as raw CSV files and processed JSON files for dashboard visualization. The process is scheduled to run every hour and stores the event logs for the previous day once available.

Cleaning Process

The cleaning process deletes old event log files based on the retention periods specified in the settings. The process is scheduled to run daily and ensures that unused events do not accumulate.

Viewing and Analyzing Event Data

  1. Navigate to the Org Monitoring Dashboard page.
  2. Select the event type from the Select Event Type dropdown.
  3. Specify the start and end dates for the event data.
  4. Click the Fetch Data button to retrieve the event data.
  5. Use the filters to refine the data displayed in the table. You can filter data by entering values in the filter fields. Multiple values can be entered separated by semicolons.

The data table will display the event data based on your selected filters and date range.
